Verité and Timberland Address Workers' Family Lives

When people travel great distances away from home to work in factories, what becomes of their children? As this Guardian article reports, in China alone, a minimum of 50 million children are left behind as their parents leave rural areas to work in factories.

Timberland, a leader in social responsibility, has been working with Verité and other organizations to help their factory workers with the stress of being apart from their children and families for long stretches of time, and at a considerable distance.

Going beyond improvements in the quality of life of factory workers, Timberland now demonstrates what companies can do to provide a better quality of life for children whose parents manufacture its products,” writes the Guardian, as part of a special feature in their Sustainable Business section: “Children: The Next Business Agenda.”
