About The Symposium
Engaging workers in social and environmental responsibility offers promise as an avenue towards greater impact for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts. Please join us in Shenzhen, China for a one-day Symposium to explore the successes and challenges of various approaches to worker involvement in CSR.
The Symposium will feature presentations and discussions among guest speakers, workers, factory managers, NGO and philanthropic leaders, brand representatives, and government officials. Participants will share lessons learned and identify creative opportunities to advance workers' involvement in social and environmental outcomes. Verité will draw on our twelve years of experience in China conducting worker training, creating structures for worker involvement in factory assessments, and building capacity among Chinese institutions to support CSR outcomes.

FEATURED SPEAKERS

Dr. Anita Chan is a leading international researcher and commentator on labor conditions in China who has worked with Chinese institutions as well as multinational corporations. Dr. Chan is currently based at The Australian National University’s Contemporary China Centre. She began her academic career with publications examining the political socialization of the Red Guard generation, Chinese rural society, mass protest movements,, etc. Her current research focuses on Chinese labor issues, including a comparison of globalized production and working conditions in China and Vietnam. Dr. Chan has published widely on Chinese workers' conditions, the Chinese trade union and labor rights issues.
Chang
Kai has a PhD in Labor Law, is a Professor at the School of Labor and
Human Resources and currently serves as Dean for the Institute of Labor
Relations of Renmin University. The Institute hosts distinguished
domestic and international scholars in the field of labor relations.
The Institute makes frequent intellectual exchanges and cooperative
relationships with more than twenty world-famous universities from
Britain, USA, Germany, Japan, Korea and Australia, including
intellectual visits, academic conferences and cooperation, etc.
Professor Chang has published widely on topics such as workers’ rights,
the legislation of strike right in China, industrial relations in
China, labor rights and labor relations studies. Professor Chang also
served as Project Team Leader for “Labor Contract Law Legislation
Studies” of the Legislative Affairs Office of the State Council of
People’s Republic of China.
